Final Forest Management Plan Bans Gas Drilling and Fracking

SVN and our partners are supporting the U.S. Forest Service’s decision to protect the integrity of the George Washington National Forest by making all of it off limits for oil and gas drilling, except for land already under gas lease and land subject to private mineral rights. The final management plan goes further than the agency’s original proposal – endorsed by 11 local governments, more than 75,000 citizen comments and numerous agencies and civic groups – to ban industrial energy development, specifically horizontal drilling for natural gas.
